I've finished two sewing items! :)

I've been back on a sewing kick lately. Since I haven't sewn (really) in a few years, atleast not more then general mending ... I am slower then I used to be. I'm trying to concentrate on finishing a project that's been hanging around, and doing a few new smaller projects in between.

Here's a project I just finished. I've been meaning to make this for a year or more, had the fabric, but just hadn't started. Seth wanted/needed a new bag for carrying his multitude of books and I figured a messenger bag would be a good style.

Here is him showing off his bag. I think he's happy with it.

And a close up of inside the bag. There is a short zippered pocket on the inside - big enough for some pens/pencils, etc... Ended up a little lower then I anticipated, but then again, I made the bag deeper and the flap shorter at the last couple of steps.

And lastly, an Easter bag that I've had started for atleast a year ! ... lol ..

I finally attached the handles, and used the scraps to make a small wallet. The snaps on the wallet gave me fits, It took me three times to attach the pearl side of the button. But persistance paid off and I have it finished and ready to go into the gifty pile.

I happy with this progress. My next project is to try to finsih a quilt top that I got from my good friend Kasey. I think I will be able to make a larger baby quilt, and a table runner with the blocks in this set. I'll post pics when I'm done :)

Also - Joel has asked for a messenger bag of his own! :) I'll have to work on that as well this week.

Benefits of Homeschooling

One of the biggest benefits of homeschooling is that when someone isn't feeling well, you can take a break, take a nap, and then do school when you are feeling better.

Our school got cut a bit short this morning. Seth was doing fine until he was 3/4 of the way through with his work, with the occasional sniffle and blowing of his nose. However, it got progressively worse until he just didn't think he could concentrate well enough. So, I gave him a cold pill, and he had a snack and went to lay down. He's now sound asleep. When he wakes up we'll resume schooling and try to finish today's work, but the important thing is that he'll be better able to fight off the cold if he can take this rest.

Homeschooling is great :)

New Jean Bag

I just finished this bag yesterday. It's made from old trims from my grandmother and the legs to a pair of jeans that Seth outgrew.

Here's the front of the bag:

And Here is the back of the bag:

Make a Bag Sew Along

{Make} A Bag Sew Along

I found this sew along .. looks really kewl. Maybe I'll actually sew this set of bags... I'm hoping anyway. Trying to slowly finish a project at a time .. If I do one a day, I'd still be working on my projects for the rest of my life, but one today means one less tomorrow right?

Wish keeping the kids busy was as easy as this bored board suggests! :)

Embroidery BOM - Fruits of the Spirit

I was shown this block-of-the-month (bom) that I thought was really sweet.

It's based on Galations Fruit of the Spirit.

Lots of other nice things there as well.

I really enjoy this song by Steven Curtis Chapman. It's a remake of the classic Proclaimers' song.

The following link is the Celtic Thunder version.

I like the Celtic Thunder version, but I like Steven Curtis Chapman better. I like a lot of SCC's music. Talented artist.

We have a Teenager in the House !

So, my oldest just turned 13 ! I can't believe we have a teenager in the house. We are so glad we have Seth. :)

He choose to not have a theme birthday cake this year, and wanted only spice cookies for the dessert portion of our family party. I had summer squash to use up anyway, so I was making chocolate squash cupcakes, and had just a bit of batter left. I decided to make him a small cake as a surprise, and used the spice cookie dough to make a big 13 for the top of it.

I think he liked it. It certainly was delicious with that gooey chocolate frosting! :)

We are a blogging family ;)

I'm starting this blog so that my son and I can interact for our homeschool. We are going to have fun learning about blogging and experiencing and sharing photos.

I can't wait! :)
