Well, I'm keeping up with the study so far .. day 2 of 2. yeah me.
Today's verse is Psalm 100: 1 - 5 ... that's a whole chapter .. just 5 verses long.
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Shout, Worship, Come, Know, Enter, Give.
Be loud in your worship of god.
Be close to God to learn about him.
Enter his presence and Give thanks.

A Confident Heart by Renee Swope
So I will be starting a new bible study ... called "A Confident Heart" by Renee Swope.
Also .. this week, I'm doing the 7-day Doubt Diet which is available on her website as a companion to the "Confident Heart" study.
I thought I'd list some of the bible verses that I have read today related to this study.
But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. Jeremiah 17:7 NLT
—“See, I am doing a new thing!” “I am working all things together for good, because you love me and are called according to my purpose.” “All things are possible to [her] who believes” (Isa. 43:19; Rom. 8:28; Mark 9:23 NASB).
Rom. 12:2
“This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us” (1 John 5:14 NASB).
Romans 10:17 tells us that “faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ” (NASB),

A prayer from the devotional ...
Praying God’s Promises Lord, I pray that You would give me a confident heart in Christ. Take me beyond believing in You to truly believing You. Help me rely on the power of Your promises and live like they are true. You say blessed is the one who trusts in You and whose hope and confidence are found in You. Those who hope in You will not be disappointed, because You work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. When self-doubt tells me I can’t overcome my insecurities, I will believe Your promise that all things are possible to whoever believes. I will not throw away my confidence, because You say it will be richly rewarded. I will persevere so that when I have done the will of God, I will receive what You have promised. My confidence is in Christ and I am no longer one who shrinks back and is destroyed, but one who believes and is saved! In Jesus’ name, Amen. (See Jeremiah 17:7; Isaiah 49:23; Romans 8:28; Mark 9:23; Hebrews 10:35–36, 39.)
“Those who hope in me will not be disappointed” (Isa. 49:23).
“See, I am doing a new thing!” (Isa. 43:19). “And we know that
in all things God works for the good of those who love him,
who have been called according to his purpose” (Rom. 8:28).
“All things are possible to [her] who believes” (Mark 9:23 NASB).
“Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?” “Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live” (vv. 2–3 NIV).
Food for thought: So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. Hebrews 10:35-36, (NIV)
Lord, I want to become a woman with a confident heart in Christ. Show me how to recognize when I’m tempted to throw away my confidence. And please help me throw away my insecurity instead. I want the reward of persevering in Your truth so that when I have done Your will, I will receive what You have promised. I don’t want to be a woman who shrinks back and is destroyed but one who believes and is saved. When doubt or insecurity tells me I can’t do something, I will remember that all things are possible to her who believes. In Jesus’ name, Amen. (See Hebrews 10:35–36, 39; Mark 9:23)

Bible Study: Acts 9:1-43
Sorry it's been so long between bible study posts .. but let's start back where we left off ..
Acts 9:1 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples.
"Murderous threats" uh? Saul was PO'd with the disciples... Still trying to cause trouble wherever he can. :( But God knew how to get Saul to see the light .. quite literally!
3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
After this, Saul was blind. His companions had to lead him into the city of Damascus. He also fasted - not eating or drinking anything.
God was working ahead of him though, and prepared for a man named Ananias to come to Saul and heal him in Jesus's name.
This is what it took for Saul to become a believer. What did it take for you to believe? Or, What WILL it take?
So after Saul became a believer, he immediately started telling others about Jesus, and support the belief in Jesus in others. He wasn't trying to kill believers anymore, but he was trying help others belief. What a turn around.
And in verse 31 - we stop learning about Saul for the moment, and verse 32 moves on to what Peter was doing . . .
Peter was in the area of Lydda. The first thing we hear about this area, is that Peter heals a man named Aeneas who had been paralyzed and bedridden for 8 years.
As word of this got out, the disciples sent Peter to Joppa to see a woman named Tabitha (also called Dorcas) because she had died. She was a woman who served others, doing many good works. Her friends and many widows missed her terribly. So they wanted Peter to help. Peter went up, and even after she had died, raised her and presented her to the widows and those who had been mourning.
Now, this may be a little wise-cracking of me .. I mean, it's a great thing that she was able to live again .. , but did they want her alive just so she could serve them again? Why not let her rest in peace and they could serve each other instead of having Tabitha/Dorcas serve them? I know God had a reason - to spread the gospel and for people to believe in him, but part of me wishes she could have just rested and remained in God's presence. For isn't that where she was? Just a stray thought ..
So - what do you think of Acts Chapter 9?

Bible Study: Acts 8
What an opening sentence!
Acts 8:1 And Saul approved of their killing him.
Wow. Isn't this the same Saul that becomes Paul? Let's read on . . .
3 But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.
Well, while Saul was being nasty, others were busy preaching the good news about Jesus. Most notably in this chapter we read more about Philip. He did many miraculous things in Jesus' name. He even impressed Simon who was a sorcerer who was also doing great things, however, Simon was doing them for his own glory, and not for Jesus. Philip's deeds impressed Simon so much that Simon tried to buy favors from Philip. This of course was wrong, and so Philip rebuked Simon and said that was sinful to try to buy favors, and that you can't buy God's grace.
After this Philip continued down the "desert road". There he met up with a eunuch who is unnamed. However, it does say that this eunuch/man was reading the writings of Isaiah. He was reading the prophecy of Jesus. Philip asked the man if he understood what they meant, and the man said that he didn't understand. Then the man asked Philip to explain it to him. Of course Philip was more than happy to tell one more man about Jesus. :)
After hearing about Jesus, the man wanted to be baptized.
39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. 40 Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.
This is one of those times when I wish the bible had a bit more information. It sounds like God 'teleported' Philip - much like what we would see in Star Trek. :) He just disappeared from the eunuch's presence, and reappeared at Azotus. Interesting, isn't it. ;)

Bible Study: Acts 6 & 7
So I'm reading Acts 6, and figure I'll do chapter 6 & 7 this time. It's the same story with no noticeable break between chapters.
We start out in Chapter 6 with the Twelve saying they'd rather not deal with the financial day to day matters, and so they delegate that job to Stephen, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus. They prayed over these men, and set them off to do the accountant jobs.
Stephen was "full of grace and power" (Acts 6:8) and many worldly men started arguing with him, but he was speaking with God's Holy Spirit, and so they couldn't win that way. So, what do they do but hire/persuade others to lie about Stephen.
Since he was accused, he was brought before the Sanhedrin. (into Chapter 7)
Stephen then gave the priests a history lesson. Counting down from Abraham through Isaac and Jacob and to the 12 patriarchs - including Joseph. On throughthe story of Moses and continuing with Solomon. He was very brief in the history. He then called out the priests with...
Acts 7:51 "You stiff-necked people . . . You are always resisting the Holy Spirit; as your ancestors did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? ... You received the law under the direction of angels and yet have not kept it"
This of course made the priests/Sanhedrin very very mad ... Can you say PO'd? Stephen of course didn't see this, because he was busy gazing on the sight of Jesus on the right hand of God. The priests attacked Stephen and took him outside to stone him. And while they were stoning him, Stephen "cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin!" (Acts 7:60).
I don't know if I can do that. Could I forgive my murderers as they were murdering me? That would be one of the most difficult things to do.

Bible Study: Acts 5
I read Acts 5 today. I'm not really up to summarizing it though, so please go read it for yourselves :)
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=acts%205&version=NIV
The verses that stood out for me today are.
Acts 5:29 Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!
Acts 5:41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. 42 Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
Any thoughts?

Bible Study: Acts 4
Acts 4 opens with Peter and John being arrested by the Saduccees for what they had done and what they were saying about Jesus. The next day they were brought before the leaders and asked (Acts 4:7b) "By what power or in what name have you done this?" They of course say it's because of Jesus. Proclaiming the good news as well.
Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people, and we must be saved by it.
The leaders were upset by this and ordered Peter & John to leave. The leaders also said that no one can talk about Jesus anymore. Peter & John responded with (Acts 4:19-20) "Whether it's right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than to God, you decide; for we are unable to stop speaking about what we have seen and heard."
After this Peter and John went back to the followers and reported what happened, and immediately began talking about God and Jesus again. They also prayed to God for boldness in speaking His Word.
The group then began selling all personal possessions and giving to the group to be used as needed. They held nothing back for their own personal use, but let it all be used for the apostles to use.
My thoughts: I think it took great courage for Peter and John to respond as they did. It would be very difficult to be told not to do something, and then immediately do it. However, it would also take great faith and believing that you were the in the right. An interesting position to put yourself in. How many international missionaries are in similar positions?

Bible Study: Acts 3
Last night I read Acts chapter 3.
This chapter talks about when Peter and John healed the lame man outside the temple gate.Peter then goes on to remind the onlookers of the prophecy and the power of God.
One verse that stands out is:
(NIV) Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
I like this other version ...
(HCB) Acts 3:19b ...that seasons of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord
...seasons of refreshing ... from the PRESENCE of the Lord.
It's nice to know that we can be refreshed just by being in the presence of the Lord.

Bible Study Acts 2
Acts 2:1-47
In summary - this is the tale of Pentecost, rushing wind, and tongues of flame came down and rested "on each of them". All speaking in different languages led by the Holy Spirit. Peter than gave a sermon reminding all present of prophesies that had been fulfilled and yet to be fulfilled. A reminder of Jesus being descended from David. A reminder of Forgiveness through Jesus.
Acts 2:38-39 'Repent," Peter said to them, "and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call."
The group broke up then, and sold what they had and gave to those with need.
Don't have any insights today, but one verse I'd like to ponder for now ..
Acts 2:46b-47a "... They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude, praising God ....."
Joyful
Humble
Praising

Bible Study
I've convinced myself, finally accepted, realized that I need to read more of His Word. I know, we all could read more, no matter how much we read right now, we could still read more.
I'm going to let you ' all know about what I'm reading each day. Hope you enjoy. Feel free to comment at any time. It's always good to discuss His Word.
My intention was to start with Acts 1:1 .. however, I scrolled back a few verses, and this struck me.
John 21:25 ".. there are also many other things that Jesus did, which, if they were written one by one, I suppose not even the world itself could contain the books that would be written."
It really made me stop and think for a moment. How many books are in your home library? Ok. How many books in your public library? Imagine if all of those books contained stories about one man, Jesus? That is mind boggling in itself. But the verse says "not even the world itself could contain" .. which means even if the earth were covered in books written about Jesus it still would not contain everything which Jesus did while on earth. I thought he did a lot before I read that verse, but this tells me that not even my imagination can come up with everything he was capable of doing, or of what he actually did do.
mmmm .. continuing on ....
Bible Reading: Acts 1
As I read Acts 1, it's mroe of a telling of a few things that happened. Jesus appearing with the apostles, and then being raised up to heaven while is disciples watched. The two angels appearing and telling the disciples that Jesus would return again in the same manner as he had just left.
Then of course the disciples, et al, traveled back to Jerusalem and there selected a replacement among the 12 for Judas. (They chose Matthias.)
What strikes me is this verse ....
Acts 1:14a "All these were continually united in prayer, ...."
What does it mean to be united in prayer? What about the continually? This is speaking about while they were traveling and after they arrived and were in the process of selecting a replacement.
Not sure I could put into words what it means. Just something to think about.

Love Is...
I've been reading Karen Kingsbury books, and more specifically "Redemption" which starts the series on the Baxter Family. I just finished a section where one of the characters realizes what Love is and what love is not .. and comes to the conclusion that He needed to be Selfless and less self serving. Less "wait until I finish ... and then I'll love and be with you .. " and more "Let me love you right now the way you need me to love you, even if that means I don't get to be with you."
So as a reminder to all of us .. here is what Love Is ...
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
So as a reminder to all of us .. here is what Love Is ...
1 Corinthians 13 (NIV)
1 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.4 Love is patient, love is kind.

A 20x30 Verse Puzzle
So, I'm one of the teachers for the preschool class for my Homeschool Group.
We are teaching the kids a verse throughout the year, and will be putting actions to that verse. We'll be introducing a new word or phrase of the verse each time we meet, and I thought it would be neat to have a puzzle that we would add a new piece to each time as well.
Anyway, I've been busy this afternoon cutting the foam board and printing out large words and images for this puzzle. I had designed the puzzle in a 8x11 size which each child will get at the end of the year, but today I transferred that design to the large 20x30 foam board.
Here it is:

The foam board is not actually yellow as it seems in the picture, it is white, just not as white as the paper.
What do you think? Would love to know! :)

I was shown this block-of-the-month (bom) that I thought was really sweet.
It's based on Galations Fruit of the Spirit.

Lots of other nice things there as well.
